Though he began his career as a Pace University-trained CPA working at the Big 8 accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, Dan quickly became less passionate about the data itself than about the process of using the data to boost organizational effectiveness and drive business value.
Driven by his belief that financial systems and process can be used to create organizational wealth and not simply record transactional activity, Dan left the accounting world to become a New York University MBA and, in 1984, founded NexVue Information Systems.
He focused on small to mid-sized companies, and surrounded himself with best-of-breed CPAs and Controllers who, like Dan, had moved from crunching numbers to developing technology based business solutions. He motivated them with autonomy, encouraging them to take the road less traveled, to learn by listening and to build long lasting business relationships by giving clients what they need.
Dan and his team have since relied on the same philosophy to develop Key Change and Account Reconciler software utilities, as well as the operational analytics platform BIO®, targeted to the specific deployment, operational and market needs of small and medium-size businesses. In 2006, Microsoft signed a license agreement with NexVue that grants Microsoft the rights to market BIO with Microsoft Dynamics™ SL. “I am happiest listening to what people need, and then designing and building solutions that really address their specific business conditions and provide the greatest return on their investment,” he says.
Today, NexVue is a leader in providing small and mid-size companies with strategic, operational and financial analytic platforms backed by business processing solutions, training and support.
The early success of BIO resulted in Dan spinning off the company’s software development division. Named BIO Analytics Corp., the spin-off company is dedicated to meeting the growing demand for its breakthrough BIO business intelligence platform and continuing the development of other affordable, state-of-the-art BI and business analytics solutions for mid-sized companies.
“Since the roll-out of our BIO platform two years ago, we have seen tremendous response from mid-market companies seeking business analytics solutions designed specifically for their needs,” said Dan. “Increasingly, mid-market companies are competing head-to-head with much larger organizations armed with expensive, sophisticated business intelligence systems. Our BI products level that playing field, having engineered out the cost, complexity and risk associated with traditional BI applications. With the establishment of BIO Analytics, we can continue to build on our successful track record, delivering BI solutions that have significant strategic and bottom-line impact for our clients.”
Dan is now working to extend the model of engineering out cost, complexity and technology to other value-based business analytic processes. His next major initiative will extend the model even further, to the discipline of predictive analytics.
